The Spiritual Journey for Our Times: A Summer Centering Prayer Retreat

In this time of anxiety and multiple crises, we have an opportunity to fall open in surrender, deepen in silence, and listen for the voice of the Spirit. Centering Prayer opens us in receptivity, allowing spiritual healing to flow in and through us. This retreat includes teachings from Fr. Thomas Keating’s Spiritual Journey series along with content on The Welcoming Prayer, a practice that allows us to stay grounded and open amidst the turmoil we are all experiencing.  The first weekend of the retreat includes introductory content on the method of Centering Prayer, enabling those new to the practice to engage in the weekend or full retreat. Participants can register for the first three, five or all seven days of the retreat.  Centering Prayer retreats are silent retreats. We gather for multiple silent “sits” in a sacred circle. Video teachings from Father Thomas Keating and other contemplative guides deepen our wisdom.

  Mary Jane Yates is an experienced practitioner and commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer. She has been a part of Contemplative Outreach for almost 20 years, serving the organization most recently as Administrator and coordinator of international efforts to share Centering Prayer and related practices.  She holds an MSc in Health Promotion and had worked for both federal and local public health organizations for over 20 years. In 2019, she also completed her training as a guide with the Association for Nature and Forest Therapy, and sees this work as a natural extension of her passions for both health promotion and contemplative practice.

 Heather Mattson McCrady has been on a contemplative spiritual path for many years.  She has a Masters of Theological Studies in Spirituality, certificates in both Spiritual Companioning and Eco Ministry, and is a commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer.  Retired from a career in Volunteer Management and Community Development, she now describes herself as a Wild Christ Monastic.
