MONASTERY OF THE HEART:  An Exploration and Deepening Centering Prayer retreat

“The monastic heart resides within all people, regardless of life situation or vocation… Each of us retains a core of silence and solitude that belongs to Mystery alone.”  – Beverly Lanzetta. This weekend is an opportunity to nurture and explore the monastery of the heart within a rhythm of centering prayer, silence, and group reflection.  Where is this monastic heart leading us in the uniqueness of our times?  What are the personal vows and rhythms of life we are called to? Fr. Keating, reflecting on the Centering Prayer movement at the end of his life, said, “I think it’s increasing, it’s burgeoning, and I think after my demise it’s likely to grow significantly, even more. The seed has to fall into the ground and die for its full energies to be released.  So whatever gifts I’ve received hopefully will be continued by divine providence, perhaps in ways that we don’t foresee.”

 Heather Mattson McCrady has been on a contemplative spiritual path for many years. She has a Master of Theological Studies in Spirituality, certificates in both Spiritual Companioning and Eco-ministry, and is a certified presenter of Centering Prayer. Retired from a career in healthcare in Volunteer Management, Patient and Family Centred Care, and Community Development, she now describes herself as a Being of the Natural Order and Wild Christ Monastic.

 Liz Rees is a contemplative leader commissioned by Contemplative Outreach to lead Centering Prayer circles and retreats.  She trained in eco ministry with Seminary of the Wild and is a certified Deeptime Leader guiding eco spiritual encounters that awaken us to our sacred universe. Liz’s spiritual road has included studying and teaching meditation, human rights work in Central America, and creating and leading transformational youth programs. Liz has a burning love of the mystic path and a call to guide others to their own sacred hearts.
