Archbishop Gerard Pettipas was born in Halifax NS to an air force family in 1950. He has three siblings: two older brothers and a younger sister. His first years were spent on RCAF bases in Nova Scotia, Quebec and Manitoba. At age 16, he attended a Redemptorist minor seminary in Brockville, Ontario. Further studies took him to Windsor, Montreal, Toronto and West Hartford, CT.
Professed as a Redemptorist in 1973 and ordained as a priest in 1977, his first years of ministry took him to St. John’s, NL, Toronto ON and Windsor ON. In 1999 he was assigned to St. Joseph Parish in Grande Prairie AB; in 2006 he was named the archbishop of Grouard-McLennan in north-western Alberta. In 2025, having reached the retirement age of 75, he now lives at St. Patrick’s Parish in Toronto.
