BEYOND THE SPIRITUAL EXERCISES 2025
Praying the Awareness Examen: From Being Right to Being Loved
Facilitated by Faith Nostbakken and Carol Sebastian
The Awareness Examen is a key prayer in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Its purpose is to notice God’s presence in the events of daily life. In her book, All the Things: A 30-day Guide to Experiencing God’s Presence in the Prayer of Examen, Katie Haseltine writes, “The Examen is the most forgiving, inviting, flexible prayer you can pray.” She invites readers to engage the prayer with heart, mind and body from the essence of their lives. After three introductory chapters, Haseltine presents 30 unique ways of living and praying the Examen. Join us as we delve into this traditional prayer practice from fresh perspectives, continuing to learn from the wisdom of Ignatius.
